In 2015, I started a project to capture Old Dubai.

I wasn’t sure what I was getting into it. But turns out, I wasn’t the only one obsessed with Bur Dubai.

According to wikipedia, Bur Dubai literally translates to Mainland Dubai, a reference to the traditional separation of the Bur Dubai area from Deira by the Dubai Creek. But my father explained carefully that the ‘Bur’ in Bur Dubai is from the Hindi word ‘Paar’ which means across. And since the Arabic language doesn't allow for the pronunciation of 'Pa' and is instead pronounced 'Ba', Paar Dubai thus became Bur Dubai.
